1. Tactical Medicine: Officer Down Rescue for Law Enforcement and EMS

Law enforcement officers continue to place themselves in harms way for the protection of the public. Unfortunately, in many of these events, officers find themselves, other officers or innocent victims gravely injured. Events such as Virginia Tech have changed the way law enforcement looks at First Aid in the field. Medical care often falls to officers on scene because it may not be safe enough for civilian EMS.

Subjects Covered:
  • Recognize and treat life-threatening injuries
  • Provide treatment under hostile conditions
  • Conduct remote assessments and direct treatment
  • Effect rapid rescues to safety
  • Use improvised equipment

2. Tactical First Aid:

There are some injuries where death before the arrival of EMS is almost assured if not managed correctly and rapidly. If such injuries occur to yourself or another during an ongoing fight, recognition and concise management of the injuries becomes critical.
This course is designed to give you the knowledge and skill necessary to identify and manage those immediately life-threatening injuries, whether they occur to you or another individual, while you are still engaged in the violent attack.

Subjects Covered:
  • The true nature of civilian gunshot wounds, their low lethality and realities of their medical management.
  • How to rapidly determine the relative seriousness of an injury and how that will affect your tactical treatment plan
  • The concept of "care under fire" and how it differs from a non-tactical medical situation
  • Techniques for moving casualties to a safer environment
  • Basic airway and ventilation assessment and management within a tactical setting
  • Assessment and management of bleeding and shock
  • Assessment and management of penetrating and blunt trauma
  • How to prepare a tactical first aid kit that will increase your treatment capabilities

  • Learning to conduct all of those skills with either hand

4. Intermediate Defensive Rifle:

The intent of this class is two-fold: first, to increase the shooter's abilities at Close Quarters Marksmanship, and second, to make the shooter a total "rifleman" with the ability to shoot to the potential of his rifle. The single man tactics taught in General Defensive Rifle will be continued and shooters will have opportunities to do live fire single room clearing and "entries" on mock rooms. This will advance to two man tactics. As always, no shooter will be asked to do things they are not capable of  - we will challenge you, not break you!

Subjects Covered:
  • For the CQM portion of the course, we will spend significant time in the ranges of 0–50 meters mastering speed and accuracy while using available cover and movement as is required in Urban Combat situations. This portion will be fast moving and the constantly changing drills and environment will challenge the shooter's mental and physical abilities.
  • The Rifleman portion of the course will be spent examining and testing the shooter's abilities at 100–600 meters. This is a chance to find out what the maximum capabilities of you and your equipment are. Shooters will be able to shoot from a variety of positions and from a rest to find their own abilities.
